Technologies for communication over short to ultra-long haul distances
Wireline communication technologies are engineered for mission-critical and business-critical environments across utilities (TSO/DSO), rail and transport, defence, and critical infrastructure sectors. Our focus is on designing and deploying deterministic, high-availability communication platforms that deliver predictable performance, ultra-low latency, and long-term operational resilience.
Our technology portfolio spans legacy, transitional, and next-generation transport architectures. CommTel designs and supports TDM networks (PDH/SDH), optical transport solutions including WDM (DWDM/CWDM) and Optical Transport Networks (OTN). These platforms provide the foundation for high-capacity, protected transport across wide geographic footprints and form the backbone for critical operational systems.
Building on this optical foundation, CommTel delivers carrier-grade packet networks using Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet, MPLS, IP, IP-TP, and Segment Routing. These architectures are engineered to support strict determinism, traffic prioritisation, and fast convergence, enabling applications such as protection, signalling, SCADA, telemetry, and operational control to operate within tightly defined latency and availability thresholds. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is applied where appropriate to enhance network visibility, control, and scalability without compromising operational stability. Access technologies such as xDSL are integrated for remote and edge connectivity where fibre is not feasible.
Integral to Network Designs is high levels of resilience through path diversity, equipment redundancy, protection switching, and traffic segregation. Clear separation of mission-critical and business-critical services is maintained to ensure safety, compliance, and operational assurance in multi-service environments. CommTel support multi-vendor interoperability and are aligned with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
To ensure predictable and reliable operation, all technologies are subjected to rigorous verification and validation, including factory and site acceptance testing, interoperability validation, and failover testing under fault conditions. Platforms are selected and engineered for deployment in ruggedised environments, capable of reliable operation in harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures, electromagnetic interference, and remote or unmanned sites.
Through deep technology expertise combined with disciplined engineering and lifecycle support, CommTel enables critical infrastructure operators to deploy, operate, and evolve secure, high-performance communication networks that underpin essential services and national infrastructure.
